With more and more organizations today opening their doors to big data and unlocking its power, has led to the increasing need and value of data scientists, who knows how to tease actionable insights out of gigabytes of data.

In an attempt to bridge the talent gap existing in this arena in the country, Masters Corporate Education, the Corporate Education arm of Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC), recently partnered with Wawiwa Tech Training, a leading tech education provider from Israel, to launch a Data Science Program, which is a one year degree that focuses on the ‘applied’ nature of data science and modern data analytics tools.

Aimed at the reskilling of Data Scientists and Cybersecurity Specialists, the program will serve to be a game-changer in the field of higher technical education and in the upskilling of tech talent in the corporate arena.

Wawiwa is best known for establishing local tech training centers with partners around the world, to bridge the tech skills gap by reskilling people for tech professions in high demand and utilizes a proven blended training methodology that was developed in Israel, best known as the Startup Nation. Wawiwa also uses a proprietary JET Design methodology, which would be passed on to Sri Lankan trainers from the local industry, to blend its cutting-edge content, digital learning platforms, and strong industry relations, and deliver tech training programs that result in high employability.

In addition, Wawiwa has also collaborated with leading local partners to establish a local Advisory Committee of leading tech companies, such as the Sri Lanka Association of Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) who will utilize their industry expertise to influence the programs’ curriculum.

Eng. Ranjith Rubasinghe, Founder President and CEO of SLTC, speaking of the partnership said “In today’s digital world, the use of emerging technologies has become a day-to-day business requirement be it in public or private organizations. While there is a significant need for Big Data analysis in different fields and industries, lack of human capital and equipment to conduct Big Data analysis is a serious hindrance to Sri Lanka’s ability to use data science and analytics for purposes of human development, business and governance and this is what led us to consider bringing this program to Sri Lanka.”

Outlining the aim of choosing to partner with Wawiwa he further explained “Israel is known for their advanced tech developments across the world, and this partnership is therefore important not only to SLTC but also to the country. I personally believe this partnership will create a new standard in the IT upskilling of Sri Lanka.”

Nuwan Dilshan, Head of SLTC’s Masters Corporate Education, added: “We’re excited about the partnership with Wawiwa Tech Training. We believe in growth through insights and exploring new disruptive business models and data driven decision making is really important for any business beyond the pandemic. As such, we are looking forward to helping Sri Lankan organizations to reskill and upskill their talented employees to Data Scientists, and take advantage of the global era of data and strengthen the Sri Lankan technology ecosystem.”

The overall aim of the program is in enabling Sri Lanka’s brightest talent to flourish as independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators capable of propelling the country’s future technological self-sufficiency.
