Gamata Sanniwedanaya envisions provision of 100% 4G Broadband coverage across the nation
As the National ICT and Telecommunications Service Provider, SLT-MOBITEL recorded yet another historic milestone by facilitating the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka’s (TRCSL) ‘Gamata Sanniwedanaya’ Project which aims to empower rural areas with supreme connectivity solutions.
The ground-breaking ceremony of the project took place at the hilltop village of Ihalagalagama in Ratnapura. The ceremony was graced by a number of distinguished dignitaries from the TRCSL, SLT-MOBITEL and other relevant government authorities such as the Central Environment Authority, Urban Development Authority, the Imbulpe Divisional Secretariat, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) – Ratnapura District Office and the Ceylon Electricity Board, Ratnapura.
The ‘Gamata Sanniwedanaya’ initiative champions the TRCSL’s prime objective of powering Sri Lanka with 100% 4G/Broadband coverage. Understanding this national vision, SLT-MOBITEL as the National Telecommunication Service Provider came forward to facilitate this project as it also falls in line with the company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and leading the nation towards an info com and knowledge rich society.
Adding his comments about their stance with TRCSL, SLT-MOBITEL Group CEO, Mr. Lalith Seneviratne stated, “SLT-MOBITEL strives to maintain a strong commitment towards integrating our expertise in the info com and technology sphere and enable the development of the nation’s progress when it comes to telecom infrastructure and connectivity. As the National ICT and Telecommunication Service Provider, we commend the efforts taken by the Director General Oshada Senanayake and will continue to support TRCSL to lead Sri Lanka towards the next phase of digital revolution.”
Sharing his thoughts on the ground-breaking ceremony, TRCSL Director General, Mr. Oshada Senanayake acknowledged, “In line with our vision to digitally transform Sri Lanka with sustainable and cutting-edge connectivity infrastructure through the Gamata Sanniwedanaya project, we would like to extend our gratitude for the support we have had from telecom operators and all other stakeholders who are working in close collaboration to facilitate this national project. The initiative to establish island wide connectivity would define the success of Sri Lanka’s digital road map of envisioning a digital economy and a smart society.”
The ground-breaking ceremony included a number of segments where a token of appreciation was presented to TRCSL Director General, Mr. Oshada Senanayake by the SLT-MOBITEL Senior Management for his tireless efforts and relentless dedication in guiding the telecommunication sector to transform Sri Lanka with digitalisation.
