Coca-Cola responds swiftly to the second wave with a Disinfection Programme in Gampaha

November 12 2020 Colombo: Following the rapid rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases over the month of October, Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd. (CCBSL) responded swiftly and mobilized with its long-term partner, Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) Gampaha branch to implement a disinfection programme in the Gampaha region, which was the most affected area during the second outbreak. CCBSL and SLRCS came together with officials from the Ministry of Health, Public Health Inspectors, Police and Directors of Hospitals to ensure the programme was conducted effectively to primarily disinfect locations frequently visited by the public and thereby enable essential work and services to be conducted in a safe and hygiene environment.

“Coca-Cola has stood by our local communities during critical times of need. The second wave of COVID-19 has significantly increased the number of confirmed cases and the need for immediate action was of paramount importance. With the objective of preventing and reducing the risk of a community spread of COVID-19, CCBSL and SLRCS embarked on the disinfection of key public operational locations and self-quarantined homes. We remain steadfast and committed to support our immediate communities during these difficult times,” said Lakshan Madurasinghe, Director – Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability of Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd.

The program covered the disinfection of the Peliyagoda, Biyagama, Meegahawatta, Sapugaskanda, Kiribathgoda and Kelaniya Police Stations, Biyagama Hospital – OPD, Udupila Hospital – OPD, Biyagama Divisional Secretarial office, Biyagama South Post office, the Grama Niladhari office and Community Centre in Thalwattha and 65 self-quarantined homes. The programme targeted these particular locations as they were key areas that continued to provide essential public services even during the imposed curfew periods.
