Premier healthcare provider Hemas Hospitals once again demonstrated its willingness to continue with sustainable technological innovation in widening its service portfolios & addressing a much needed holistic diagnostic solution for Neuro Services by recently declaring open Sri Lanka’s most up to date state-of-the-art neuro diagnostic unit at its flagship hospital in Wattala.

Housed within the hospital’s first floor, the new unit will offer a series of specialised neuro diagnostic tools that will enable technologists to record electrical activity arising from the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. These comprise electromyography or nerve conduction studies, electroencephalograms, sleep studies, MRI scans, BSER test, VEP test and SEP test.

Among the attendees of the grand opening of the new diagnostic unit were Hemas Hospitals and Laboratories Managing Director and President, Association of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Dr. Lakith Peiris, Consultant Neuro Physician Dr. Kamal Goonarathne, Hemas Hospital Wattala Director/ General Manager Dr. Lasantha Karunasekara and other hospital staff.

The formal ceremony also featured religious observances, with pirith chanted by Hendala Purana Viharaya Chief Incumbent Ven. Higgoda Saddananda Thero.

“The neuro diagnostic unit equips the hospital with heightened capacity to analyse and monitor nervous system function to promote effective treatment of neurological conditions such as muscular dystrophy, epilepsy and brain disease. This represents another significant step by Hemas Hospitals to bring high-quality affordable healthcare to people beyond Colombo’s city limits and I’m deeply grateful to all the staff that helped in the realisation of this endeavour,” said Dr. Peiris.

The move also strengthens the hospital chain’s trail-blazing reputation for pursuing the newest and most effective means of treatment by adopting cutting-edge medical technology. This eagerness to embrace pioneering solutions has also seen the group introduce several innovative digital health initiatives including the Hemas Health App, the Live Track facility, an online pharmacy and a digital laboratory portal. Recently, this commitment saw it commence the implementation of an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system within its hospital and laboratory network, which will help it to become Sri Lanka’s first smart hospital.

First established in 2008 with the launch of its pioneering facility in Wattala, followed by a second facility in Thalawathugoda, Hemas Hospitals is one of the most advanced hospital chains in Sri Lanka. The organisation provides a wide array of surgical and medical specialties and has established an island-wide network of clinical laboratories. Hemas Hospitals chain is currently the most awarded hospital chain in Sri Lanka winning a total of 20 national and international top awards within the current financial year

“Piyawara”, launched in partnership with the Children’s Secretariat of the Ministry of Women & Child Affairs, is the Hemas group’s flagship CSR initiative where over 53 preschools were constructed to house over 140 teachers and 3200 children at an investment of over Rs. 400 Mn. This is in addition to “Ayati”, where the Hemas group tied hands with the University of Kelaniya, MAS Holdings and the Sri Lankan army to construct a state-of-the-art national rehabilitation centre for children with disabilities in Ragama – a project valued at Rs. 650 Mn.
