Sri Lanka Telecom Training Centre (SLT TTC), conducted the graduation ceremony for its first batch of BEng Degree programme students and the 11th batch of BTEC HND programme students recently. The graduation ceremony was organized on a grand scale at the Lotus Hall, BMICH with Dr. Rodney Day, Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire UK gracing the ceremony as the Chief Guest of the event. Mr. Felix Zhu – Associate Dean International / University of Hertfordshire , Mr. Sanath Panawennage – Director General & CEO / Arthur C Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies , Mr. Kiththi Perera – CEO/SLT, Mr. Priyantha Fernandez – Chief Operating Officer/SLT, senior management of SLT and academic panel of TTC were also present at the event
SLT TTC commenced the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electronics and Communication programme during the year 2017 in collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire. The University of Hertfordshire has been ranked as No. 10 in UK for Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2019 by The Guardian. During the 2020 graduation ceremony, a total of 26 students passed out, amongst whom ten attained first class honours. Mr. Senadhi Harindra Perera received the Best Student Award from the BEng programme.
SLT TTC offers three streams for its BEng programme: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering as well as Electronics and Computer Engineering. The programme comprises of 3 years of study with an individual project as well as six months of in-plant training. Graduates are eligible to continue their studies and go into MSc/MEng qualifications or even directly read for their PhDs at the University of Hertfordshire, UK or other renowned universities across the globe.
SLT TTC has been conducting the BTEC HND programme since the year 2005, in collaboration with Pearson, UK’s largest awarding body, regulated by OFQUAL (England), SQA Accreditation (Scotland), CCEA Accreditation (Northern Ireland) and Qualifications Wales (Wales). This year’s graduation ceremony saw the passing out of 39 students, amongst whom there were 3 overall distinction passes and 15 overall merit passes. Mr. Navoda Kanishka Bandara was awarded the Gold medal for best student .
The BTEC HND programme comprises of one and a half years of full-time study where students learn theoretical aspects at SLT’s fully equipped, state-of-the-art training centres. This is followed by another six months of industrial training at SLT or other reputed organizations, where the students are further equipped with practical knowledge and skills required to perform well in a proper working environment. With this qualification in hand, the diploma holders are eligible for enrolment in higher studies in renowned universities either in Sri Lanka or abroad.
