Hayleys Aviation and Travels (HAT) commenced the first phase in a long term plan to renovate and maintain the Pediatric Chemotherapy Unit of the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama, starting with refurbishments to facilities available for children under observation at the premises.

The Aviation and Travel arm, which is a key business vertical of the Hayleys Advantis Group , Sri Lanka’s leading logistics provider, will continue and expand this project under the ‘HAT with Flowers’ programme, leveraging internally generated funds from the company and voluntary contributions from employees.

“Even though Sri Lankans have access to free health care, some of the facilities available at local centres are in dire need of renovation or need to be upgraded. Therefore it was a real honour for all of us at Hayleys Aviation and Travel to get involved with upgrading facilities for these young patients. Our dedicated team of employees has rallied behind this worthy cause and we hope to further develop the facilities at this Pediatric unit moving forward, in order that young patients will have as much comfort as possible while under observation,” Hayleys Aviation and Travels Director/Chief Executive Officer, Gerard Victoria said.

The project will begin with the replacement of two old air conditioning and water filter units available at the chemotherapy unit. The initiative will also see the installation of a brand new satellite connection for their television, which is to be maintained by HAT.

The ward identified by HAT for renovation is used by approximately 900 children and parents per month with 12-15 children being housed per day. HAT aims to provide a comfortable recovery area for children who have undergone treatment at the Apeksha Hospital. HAT plans to fully maintain the ward whilst making further arrangements to purchase much needed medicine for the children.
