Sri Lanka’s fastest-growing life insurer, Softlogic Life, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Kelaniya to extend their dynamic sales force the opportunity to be qualified with both a diploma and higher diploma in financial services management. Softlogic Life aims to further strengthen their team of experienced insurance advisors through this unique new initiative, accredited by the University Grants Commission in Sri Lanka.

Where once insurance sales was thought of as a profession for those who cannot find employment elsewhere or one which offers a way to make a quick buck, Softlogic Life turned things around completely; making insurance advisory a professional, lucrative career path for their employees by equipping them with specialised knowledge and training. Continuing its steep trajectory upward after being crowned as a ‘Great Place to Work’ for the fourth consecutive year, the company desires to  boost the reputation of their insurance sales advisors further by giving them a  unique opportunity to be legitimately qualified members of the country’s educated workforce.

As a strategy of driving the country’s most productive insurance salesforce to reach higher educational qualifications, the company plans to position the graduates of this particular programme in academic dress at the company’s annual gala convention, encouraging many others to follow in their footsteps.

Speaking on their latest initiative, Softlogic Life Managing Director Iftikar Ahamed said, “At Softlogic Life, we pride ourselves in investing heavily and consistently in the development of our insurance advisors. We believe that a knowledgeable, driven workforce is at the core of service excellence. Our new initiative with Kelaniya University is a testament to the importance we give to creating a culture of continuous professional development and adaptability. We deeply believe that in order to achieve this we need to provide them a great place to work, develop their capabilities, empower them and appropriately reward their contribution.”

Commenting further on the same, Softlogic Life Executive Director Chula Hettiarachchi, “We have always been committed to equipping and empowering our workforce to compete and be respected in an ever-changing world of work through continued focus on learning and development. We are constantly striving to harness the full potential of our human capital as we recognize that this is a critical driver of our business success in delivering a superior client experience, while sustaining the happiness and wellness of our employees.”

With a total workforce of over 3200 employees, the company also offers on-the-job training specific to individual roles and career paths and encourages employees to pursue tertiary education through a bursary programme that supports qualifications in fields related to the company. With stringent policies in place for talent management, recruitment, remuneration, skills development and employee equity, Softlogic Life is driven by the deep philosophy that people are a company’s greatest asset.
