The latest effort by the Commercial Bank CSR Trust carried out through the Bank’s Passara Branch, saw the installation of a complete water treatment plant at the Passara District Hospital, which had previously been receiving water polluted with agrochemicals and waste matter.
The main hospital in the area, the Passara District Hospital provides healthcare services to over 500 patients a day with scarce resources and had been affected by the lack of clean drinking water, much like the rest of the area. With no proper built-in water purification and distribution system nor a central water purification system in place, hospital authorities said this issue had been the cause of an increase in both non-communicable diseases and Kidney diseases in the area.
In addition to its efforts at the hospital, Commercial Bank carried out several other projects to benefit school children by donating musical instruments and a photocopy machine to the Bibilegama Vidyalaya, providing a photocopy machine and a computer to the Gonakele Tamil Vidyalaya and carrying out yet another water supply project at the Central College, Passara.
Commercial Bank’s CSR projects, directed by the Bank’s CSR Trust, predominantly encompass the fields of IT literacy, education, sustainability and health.
