Mallika Hemachandra Jewellers joined hands with the Women’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Sri Lanka (WCIC) as the Official Jewellery Partner of the inaugural SAARC Woman Entrepreneur Award Presentation today. With the sponsorship of the jewellery of the event, Mallika Hemachandra Jewellers kicks off a special celebration during the month of March in line with International Women’s Day 2019, to applaud empowered women and recognize their resilience and exemplary success.

Lakmini Wijesundara from Sri Lanka was recognized as the year’s outstanding woman entrepreneur from among a number of nominees from each of the SAARC nations, and received the prestigious title of ‘SAARC Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2018‘. The event was organized by the SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneur Council (SCWEC), the official body launched by the WCIC to create regional fellowship and cooperation among women entrepreneurs of SAARC countries.

Mallika Hemachandra Jewellers partnered with the WCIC to encourage women entrepreneurs in the region by example, drawing from a strong, female-led legacy built by pioneering founder Mallika Hemachandra 50 years ago.  As one of Sri Lanka’s household brands for fine jewellery today, Mallika Hemachandra’s 150 strong team is represented by an 80% majority of empowered, passionate and creative women.

Over the years, Mallika Hemachandra Jewellers has also been instrumental in building sustainable and empowering career paths for over 750 women from across Sri Lanka in jewellery making, creating opportunities for hundreds more women and their families to generate their own income, advance in their livelihoods and enhance their lifestyles.

“We are thrilled to experience a corporate culture today where women entrepreneurs are not only accepted across the business landscape, but are also recognized and rewarded befittingly for their efforts,” commented Managing Director of Mallika Hemachandra Jewellers, Chamindri Hemachandra. “We take our responsibility of empowering women to heart in all that we do, and even 50 years on we continue to encourage, inspire and support women across our operation. While congratulating  Lakmini Wijesundara for winning the inaugural SAARC Woman Entrepreneur Award, I would like to wish all women out there a wonderful Women’s Day, and hope you celebrate with our special Women’s Day promotion from the 7th – 10th March.
