The Brandix Group has provided sponsorship support for the 2018 National Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Conference of Sri Lanka as a key corporate partner for the ninth year.

Organised by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of the Ministry of Labour, this year’s conference, part of the National Occupational Safety & Health Week, was themed ‘OSH Management System Implementation and Occupational Disaster Preparedness.’

In keeping with the theme, the objective of this year’s conference was to create awareness and improve health and safety in the workplace as a productivity and economic development strategy by establishing an OSH management system. The event also served as a platform to reward and promote OSH professionals.

“At Brandix, occupational health and safety has always been a top priority, and we strive to inspire our people to focus on achieving excellence in this sphere, which is why we continue to be a consistent supporter of this event,” said Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Harsha Abeywickrema, Director of Brandix Apparel Limited. “Achieving the highest standards for occupational safety and health also helps drive productivity and is an important element in our company’s culture of compliance.”

In 2009, the second week of October was designated as the ‘National Occupational Safety & Health Week’ by the Sri Lanka Cabinet of Ministers. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health commemorates this week annually with the participation of its tripartite constituents to develop a safe culture across all work places island-wide. The Institute also uses this opportunity to emphasise on the importance of establishing an OSH management system in industries to minimise occupational hazards and accidents.

Brandix, the single largest employer in Sri Lanka’s export sector and adjudged ‘Globally Operated Highest Foreign Exchange Earner’ at the 2018 Presidential Export Awards, will continue its commitment to support events connected with the National Safety Week initiative.
