Two leading experts in radiation oncology were in Sri Lanka recently to share their knowledge on the latest techniques in treating cancer through Tomotherapy. The visit of Dr Cheng Saw, Director of Medical Physics and Radiation Safety Officer at the Northeast Radiation Oncology Centers (NROC), Dunmore, PA, USA and Mr Piyush Singh who works as Head of Marketing for Accuray for South Asia, Middle East, Israel and Egypt was organised by Ceylinco Healthcare Services Limited (CHSL) which operates the only Tomotherapy facility in Sri Lanka. The company said the training provided by the two experts to the centre’s healthcare professionals and a seminar they conducted for Consultant Oncologists was the precursor to the launch of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) in Sri Lanka by the Ceylinco Tomotherapy Centre for the treatment of cancers of the brain, spine, liver and lung.
