25% increase in export capacity for key product line and advances sustainable growth

Hanwella, April 8th, 2025 – Dipped Products PLC (DPL), a global leader in hand protection and a member of the Hayleys Group, unveiled its latest state-of-the-art Natural Rubber Chain Production Plant at its subsidiary, Hanwella Rubber Products Ltd. (HRPL), following a Rs. 1 billion investment. This milestone marks a significant step in the company’s continued commitment to growth, innovation, and sustainability.

The ceremonial opening was held in the presence of Hayleys Chairman and Chief Executive Mohan Pandithage, Co-Chairman Dhammika Perera, Dipped Products PLC Deputy Chairman Rajitha Kariyawasan, Director Brindhiini Perera, Managing Director Pushpika Janadheera and senior representatives from Hayleys PLC and Dipped Products PLC, alongside the operational team of HRPL.

The newly commissioned plant boosts the production capacity of HRPL by 25% for thick-layered gloves designed for household, professional and DIY use. The facility is now better equipped to meet the increasing demand from key global markets, positioning the company for sustained export growth in the medium and long term.

A newly installed, high-efficiency biomass boiler enables the use of renewable energy while significantly reducing biomass consumption. The facility features an in-house developed control system that enhances operational precision and monitoring through cloud-based technology. It is equipped with IE3-class electrical motors, globally recognised for their superior energy efficiency. Additionally, a 30% expansion of the effluent treatment plant (ETP) increases water treatment and reuse, reinforcing DPL’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and environmental stewardship. These advancements contribute directly to reducing the carbon footprint per glove produced, aligning with DPL’s sustainability and energy efficiency goals.

Mohan Pandithage, in his address, said: “With this milestone, DPL continues to cement its role as a strategic contributor to Sri Lanka’s export economy, delivering high-quality, sustainably manufactured gloves to the world. Backed by strong leadership, forward-thinking strategy, and a dedicated workforce, the company is well-positioned to shape the future of the global hand protection industry.”

“This upgraded facility stands as a testament to the skill and expertise of our own Sri Lankan engineers. What sets it apart is the combination of operational excellence with a refined finish, built with precision and care to an international standard. This is a world-class operation, comparable to the best anywhere in the world,” Dhammika Perera stated, congratulating the team.

Rajitha Kariyawasan added, “Even amidst national and global challenges, we have remained committed to investing in growth. That resilience and forward-thinking mindset are deeply embedded in our DNA. We are focused on further embracing digitalisation, leveraging our expertise, and keeping our people at the centre of everything we do as we drive this journey forward.”

Pushpika Janadheera stated, “This facility marks a 25% increase in production capacity for thick-layered gloves, a significant milestone for Hanwella Rubber Products Ltd. At the same time, ESG principles remain at the core of our management philosophy, guiding us toward sustainable growth and responsible practices. Together, we are ready to meet the future.”

The project has also generated over 110 new direct employment opportunities across production, pre- and post-production, and packaging functions, further contributing to economic upliftment in the region.
