
Wednesday 26 March, Colombo, Sri Lanka – Chokolaate, the premier youth magazine in Sri Lanka, is thrilled to announce the 15th edition of the Mother-Daughter Fashion Designer Contest (MDFD) 2025. This prestigious event, which has become a hallmark of creativity and style, invites talented designers to showcase their innovative designs for a mother-daughter duo in three exciting categories: Casual, Sports, and Evening Wear.
The Managing Director of Chokolaate, Michelle Gunesekara, who envisioned a platform for nurturing Sri Lanka’s budding fashion talent while celebrating the unique bond between mothers and daughters, conceptualized the contest. Over the past 15 years, MDFD has blossomed into a highly anticipated event, bringing together the best in fashion design, creativity, and cultural expression.
A large number of designers submitted creations for the following categories.
- Casual Wear: Stylish yet comfortable outfits for everyday moments.
- Sports Wear: Activewear that blends functionality with fashion for the mother-daughter duo.
- Evening Wear: Elegant and stunning pieces perfect for a special night out.
The semi-finals were held on 8 March from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm at the College of Fashion & Design, and featured selected contestants presenting their designs, with the top contenders advancing to the finals.
Meanwhile, the Grand Finale will be a glamorous evening where the best designers will present their collections to a panel of esteemed judges. The event which will be held on 31 May 2025 from 6pm onwards at Taj Samudra Colombo, promises to be an unforgettable celebration of fashion, creativity, and the cherished mother-daughter relationship.
