Curtin University Colombo’s 2025 Graduation honours academic brilliance and outstanding alumni

Curtin University Colombo, successfully conducted the 2025 Graduation ceremony on March 8 at the Forum, Cinnamon Life. The Graduation celebrated the achievements of its graduating class and honoured outstanding alumni contributions.

Professor Lalith Gamage, Chairman, Curtin University Colombo, commenced the ceremony delivering the opening note, followed by an official welcome from Professor Harlene Hayne, CNZM and Vice Chancellor, Curtin University. His Excellency Paul Stephens, Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, delivered the keynote graduation address.
 



 
Prf. Xiaotian Zhang, Acting Chancellor, Curtin University, presented the graduation charge to the graduates. The student perspective was provided by valedictorian Sudheera Ashen Perera Ushettiege, who completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering with distinction.

Eight graduates received Excellence Awards for outstanding academic performance across various disciplines:

Muhammed Salman Ahamed Fouz – Civil and Construction Engineering, Saad Rayyan Mohamed Nazeer – Computer Systems and Networking, Sarveswaran Abinash – Cyber Security, Hiru Mahanama Nanayakkara – Mechatronic Engineering, Nipuna Prabath Sameera Fernando Warnakulasooriya – Information Technology, Anish Dumbukola – Software Engineering, Aabith Layeek Siddeeque Shiraj Sharifdeen – Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Sudheera Ashen Perera Ushettiege – Mechanical Engineering.

Significantly, the 2025 graduates join Curtin’s global alumni network of accomplished professionals, reflecting the university’s commitment to world-class education and research at its Colombo campus.

To commemorate the Alumni contribution, a highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Curtin Alumni Awards. Aabith Layeek Siddeeque Shiraj Sharifdeen and Abieshek Mahendran received special recognition from the Alumni Association for their achievements.

Additionally, two distinguished alumni were honoured with prestigious awards for professional accomplishments and societal contributions:

Professor Dasuni Priyanwada Nawinna received the Professional Excellence Award for her 21-year contribution to ICT education at SLIIT, where she supervised over 90 projects and published more than 40 articles. Randima Niroshini Singha Ralalage was presented the Leadership and Global Impact Award for her 20-year career as an EY Australia Director leading digital transformation projects and championing diversity in tech.

The 2025 Graduation ceremony highlights Curtin University Colombo’s dedication to academic excellence and vital role in shaping forward-thinking leaders prepared to tackle complex global challenges.
