A day-long International Linguistics Conference was held on Wednesday 26 February 2025 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU). Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. DU Linguistics Department organized this event with the theme of Language, Function and Inter-disciplining Digital Humanities.
Chairperson of the Department of Linguistics of DU Dr. Monira Begam presided over the conference while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan addressed it as special guests.Convener of conference committee Prof. Dr. Syed Shahrier Rahman delivered welcome address. Prof. Dr. Ted Gibson of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA and Prof. Dr. Matti Miestamo of University of Helsinki, Finland delivered keynote speeches.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan stressed the need for expansion of joint collaborative academic and research programs on language and culture among Dhaka University and the renowned universities across the world. He said, language has universal appeal in bringing people united around the world. He urged all to work for establishing peace and harmony among the people through utilizing spirit of universal language properly.
It may be mentioned that academician and researchers from different countries including Bangladesh,USA, Canada, China, Romania and Finland participated in the conference.
