Sri Lanka Esports Prepares for the Next Chapter with Steady Leadership and New Global Opportunities

AGM (LBN)

The Sri Lanka Esports Association (SLESA), the officially recognised governing body for Esports in Sri Lanka by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, recently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the National Olympic Committee Auditorium. The AGM marks the beginning of a new term for Sri Lanka Esports, bringing together all its members to review progress and elect the leadership for the upcoming term, featuring a mix of continuity and fresh perspectives. It also served as a platform for members to discuss and share their thoughts on the way forward for the sport’s continued development and professionalisation.

Nominations were called in advance for the Executive Committee, and elections of new and returning members to key positions. Raveen Wijayatilake was re-elected as President, with Dinuka Ratnayake stepping into the role of Vice President. Ramesh Liyanage and Vikum Jayasekera retained their positions as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively, while Chathra Jayasekera continued as Assistant Secretary. Ashen Dion Nanayakkara was elected as Media Secretary, Gavin Moragoda as Assistant Media Secretary, and Kamith Lakmal as Chairperson of the Clan Committee.

The AGM also reviewed the past year’s achievements, highlighting the ongoing efforts to advance Esports in Sri Lanka to new heights. Significant progress has been made toward providing athletes with salaries and national colours, aligning Esports with the standards of traditional sports and advancing it on its journey toward becoming a fully professional sport in the country. SLESA reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a robust and sustainable framework for the sport, ensuring its growth responsibly.

The upcoming term is expected to be an exciting period for Sri Lanka Esports, with Esports included in several international events on the horizon. These include the Olympic Esports Games, the Asian Games, the Asian Youth Games, the International Esports Federation (IESF) World Esports Championship, and the Global Esports Federation (GEF) Global Esports Games. These events will provide a platform for Sri Lankan athletes to showcase their skills on a global stage, further strengthening the country’s presence in the international Esports arena.

SLESA comprises seven full-member organisations, namely Gamer.LK, Maximum Esports, Noob Alliance, Phoenix Gaming, Tech Morph, Wolfgang Esports, and Xiphos Esports. Additionally, its membership includes six associate organisations: Alpha Esports, Immortal Esports, iPlay, LVG eSports, Play Arena, and Yakuza Esports. Together, these members form the backbone of Sri Lanka’s Esports ecosystem, working collaboratively to drive the sport forward. A key point of discussion at the AGM was opening SLESA to more Esports organisations within the nation, providing them structure and support – strengthening the nation’s position on the sport’s global stage.

Dialog Axiata PLC has been instrumental in supporting the nation’s competitive gaming scene. As the title sponsor of Sri Lanka’s National Esports Teams, Dialog’s commitment to the growth of Esports has helped elevate the sport’s recognition and professionalism in the country, strengthening its presence on the global stage. As the strategic partner of Sri Lanka Esports, Gamer.LK continues to play a pivotal role as a key enabler of Sri Lanka’s Esports ecosystem, in supporting the association’s initiatives and events, bringing over 18 years of experience, a global network of partners, and a strong reputation to ensure their success and sustained growth.
