As we reflect on the year gone by, Uber has released its annual highlights report—“How Sri Lanka Ubered”—spotlighting key trends that shaped mobility in the country. Backed by data, the report sheds light on evolving rider preferences, intercity travel patterns, and the growing role of ride-sharing in the island nation’s mobility landscape.

Uber remained the favourite mobility companion for the island nation, with products across categories finding love from riders. In 2024, Uber trips covered a distance equal to circling the earth nearly 5000 times!

Uber Auto and Uber Zip continued to dominate as the most popular products, with Uber Moto cementing its status as the fastest-growing option by demand. This reflects an increasing preference for affordable, convenient two-wheeler and three-wheeler ride options.

Colombo retained its top spot as the city with the highest number of Uber trips in 2024 with its divisional secretariat Thimbirigasyaya once again emerging as the place with maximum trips, leading in late-night trips, weekend travel, and office-hour rides.

Top Intercity Destinations

Sri Lankans’ love for travel was evident in intercity trends, with beach destinations like Weligama, Habaraduwa, Galle, and Hikkaduwa topping the list. The ancient city of Dambulla, known for its cave temple and proximity to Sigiriya and Minneriya National Park, also emerged as a popular destination. These routes highlight the nation’s preference for sun-soaked getaways and cultural escapes using Uber’s Intercity product.
