Seylan Bank Reigns Undefeated at the 2024 Mercantile Hockey Association Championship

The Bank with a Heart dominated the hockey field in 2024, clinching championships in both the Mercantile Hockey Association (MHA) League and the MHA 9-A-Side Tournament, securing the runner-up position in the MHA Knockouts.

Seylan Bank’s performance in the MHA League drew 1-1 against Haleys in their opening match, securing a victory over John Keells Holdings (JKH) with a 2-0 win. Decisive victories over SLT-MOBITEL and HSBC followed, with scores of 8-0 and 10-0 respectively.

 



 

Mr Jiffery Irshad’s performance drew attention, earning him the titles of Highest Goal Scorer and Player of the Tournament.

Maintaining their winning form at the MHA 9-A-Side Tournament, Seylan Bank beat Hayleys, with a score of 1-0. Wins over JKH (1-0) and HSBC (3-1) followed. They triumphed over the CIAP’s experienced team with a 2-0 victory to claim the championship.

At the MHA Knockouts, Seylan Bank defeated HSBC in the semifinals with a score of 1-0. However, after a fierce final against Hayleys, they were defeated 3-2, finishing as the tournament’s runner-up.
