21 January 2025: Standard Chartered is continuing the commitment to Sri Lanka’s economic development as Platinum Sponsor of the Sri Lanka Economic Summit, marking its eighth consecutive year of partnership with The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The Summit, scheduled for January 28th and 29th at the Shangri-La Hotel Colombo, focuses on ‘Shaping Sri Lanka’s Future: Transformational Growth Rooted in Sound Economic Policies.’ This year’s event holds particular significance as Sri Lanka positions itself for economic recovery and growth.

The two-day summit will convene corporate leaders, policymakers, and international experts to explore key reforms and strategies for transformational growth. Standard Chartered’s support enhances the event’s role in shaping policies for Sri Lanka’s economic future.

Following the economic contraction in 2022-2023, Sri Lanka seeks accelerated growth post debt restructuring and new leadership. The country faces a critical choice between sustainable development and potential IMF intervention. Success requires an export-led model leveraging Sri Lanka’s location and regional markets, supported by stable fiscal policies. The Economic Summit will explore key sectors and reforms to drive this transformation.

CEO of Standard Chartered Sri Lanka, Bingumal Thewarathanthri, said, “As Sri Lanka positions for economic transformation in 2025, the Economic Summit serves as a critical platform for meaningful dialogue between public and private sectors. Following the debt restructuring and new leadership, this year presents a unique opportunity to establish foundations for sustainable growth. Our eight-year Platinum sponsorship partnership with The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce reflects Standard Chartered’s enduring commitment to Sri Lanka’s economic advancement. The Chamber’s legacy in building business excellence aligns with the Bank’s vision for the country’s prosperity.”

The Summit’s inaugural session will feature His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, in a fireside chat moderated by Bingumal Thewarathanthri in his capacity as the Deputy Vice Chairman of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
