The two-day conference titled ’11th Dhaka International Conference on Women in Cinema 2025′, organized by Rainbow Film Society and supported by ActionAid Bangladesh, has begun as part of the 23rd Dhaka International Film Festival.
The 11th Dhaka International Conference on Women in Cinema was held at Dhaka Club on 12 January 2025 Sunday. The program began at 9:30 am with a captivating cultural performance.
The conference was moderated by Sadia Khalid Riti. Central Women’s University Vice Chancellor Dr. Parveen Hasan was present as the chief guest of the event. ActionAid Bangladesh Country Director Farah Kabir and Chinese film director and writer Zhang Yudi delivered speeches as special guests. The event was presided over by Dhaka International Film Festival Chairperson Professor Kishwar Kamal.
At 11:30 am, Ms. Zhang Yudi presented her keynote paper, titled “Tradition Meets Modernity: Female Peking Opera Performers in Chinese Films from Classical Narratives to Contemporary Realism.” This was followed by a lively discussion, with Ms. Rainbow Fong, Ms. Lisa Ghazi, and Ms. Farah Kabir participating as panelists.
After the lunch break, the next keynote paper was presented by Ms. Naima Chowdhury at 2:00 PM. The paper was titled “The Future of Women and Film Making.” The session was attended by Dr. Toufiq Elahi, Ms. Chaitali Somaddar, and Dr. Rasheda Rawnak Khan as panelists.
This conference created an important platform to discuss the role of women in film, the connection between tradition and modernity, and the potential for women filmmakers in the future.
