Hasara, Hasini make history for Sri Lanka at Botswana International

Hasara Wijerathne and Hasini Ambalangodage made history for Sri Lanka badminton when the pair clinched the women’s doubles title at the Botswana International 2024 on Sunday.

In a thrilling final, the duo showcased astounding skills to overcome South Africa’s Amy Ackerman and Deidre Laurens, ranked 72nd in the BWF World Rankings. The closely contested match ended with a scoreline of 21-18, 22-20, marking Sri Lanka’s first-ever Women’s Doubles victory at a BWF International Level 3 tournament.

This milestone achievement is a testament to the rising prowess of Sri Lankan badminton on the global stage. Following the memorable victory, Hasara and Hasini now turn their focus to the South Africa International Tournament from November 28 to December 1.
