There are some wives who like to blame others. Similarly, Maya, a newlywed in the drama, starts torturing her in-laws and even her husband Adil ever since she moved to her in-laws’ house. No one knows why she is doing so. The in-laws, fearing public shame, do not protest and remain silent. Instead of getting angry at the wife’s words, Adli’s mother tries to counsel her, and takes care of her. Adil also tries to explain to her, but to no avail. The wife’s torture increases day by day. She makes her elderly parents do all the household chores. She makes her sick father do the agricultural work, the cowshed work. The son becomes angry. But he seems helpless to his wife.
One day, Maya got into a fight with a rickshaw puller. Taking a small fare of 20 taka, she raised her hand and attacked the rickshaw puller. The crowd present sided with the rickshaw puller and beat Maya’s head. She fell ill. Seeing Maya’s illness, her in-laws almost went crazy. They sat by her side all night and took care of her without sleep. When Maya woke up, she saw her in-laws sitting by her side. Even after treating her in-laws so badly, their behavior changed Maya. Maya was surprised and burst into tears and apologized.
Such story, ‘Dajjal Bou’, has been narrated by playwright Rajib Moni Das, and the play has been directed by the skilled director Naznin Hasan Khan.
Playwright Rajib Moni Das said, “Normally, the in-laws are supposed to get angry against the wife’s oppression and send the wife to her parents’ house, but here we have seen that the parents want to move away for the happiness of the son and the wife, and still the son should be happy. But the son does not agree to it. Again, he is not able to protest strongly due to the fear of public shame. In other words, the philosophy of life outside the natural life has been given priority here in a positive way.”
Director Naznin Hasan Khan said, “Drama is the mirror of society. In that mirror, you can see yourself the way you want to see yourself. All you need is a mind and mentality. I always try to create a drama while maintaining my own individuality. A drama that will tell you about me, tell you about society, and teach values along with entertainment.”
