The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (MMCA Sri Lanka) invites you to join their free public events for November, held at the museum located at Crescat Boulevard, Colombo 3. These public programmes are curated as part of Rotation 1 of their current exhibition, ‘Total Landscaping’, which is on view until 1 December 2024. This month’s main event is a Vegan Pop-Up from 10 am–6 pm on Saturday, 2 November, organised in collaboration with Meatless Monday Sri Lanka and EthicalX. This pop-up will feature sustainable, climate-friendly products from local vendors who embrace eco-conscious lifestyles. The participating vendors include ALEAF, ALKE, Clara Minnelli, Kocoplay, LaLa Studio, Made, Mannankulam Organics, Noad, Plant-Based Studios, Power Crunch, Sinharaja Herbs, Smokey’s, VIKKI, CLIMAFUGE, Goodfolks, Muy Grande, Quilted Dreams, Ranbath, Wellness Cultz, and Yica Ceylon.

In connection with the Pop-Up, visitors can also enjoy exclusive discounts from vendors located on the ground floor of Crescat Boulevard, including 20% off vegan items at Kaffi, 25% off vegan burgers at Full’r, 10–15% discounts at Selyn, 15% off of hair services at Salon Head Turners, 20% off all purchases at Rooter, and 15% off of 20 and 30-minute massage services at Foot Rub. Admission to the Vegan Pop-Up and the museum is free, allowing guests to enjoy a full day dedicated to thoughtful lifestyle choices.

Additionally, on 9 and 23 November, Assistant Curator Thinal Sajeewa will lead free Curator’s Tours from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the MMCA Sri Lanka galleries. These tours invite visitors to delve into ‘Total Landscaping’ and consider how land has been transformed, repurposed, and contested historically across Sri Lanka.

Visitors can also attend Spotlights on 10, 13, and 24 November, when Visitor Educators at the MMCA Sri Lanka will help them further understand selected works from ‘Total Landscaping’. These 11 a.m.–12 p.m. sessions offer focused discussions on the artworks, providing additional context and prompting reflection on the themes explored by the artists.

On 23 November, painting enthusiasts can join artist Irasha Zavahir from artDÖTink for a special ‘Sip and paint’ session from 4 pm to 6 pm. The participants will be invited to create their own paintings inspired by Arulraj Ulaganathan’s (b.1992) work, ‘Landscapes’ (2019, 2020), which is on display in ‘Total Landscaping’. This is a paid event, and tickets will be available at the door.

With a series of free and interactive public programmes, the MMCA Sri Lanka continues to provide diverse, engaging, and accessible ways for the public to connect with Sri Lankan modern and contemporary art. So come and soak up the art vibes!
