Mr. A.F.M Ikram, Managing Director of Emerald International, remarked, “Emerald has a rich tradition of supporting charitable causes. Mr. Ruzly Hussain – Chairman of OrphanCare Trust: “We are thankful to Emerald International for joining hands with OrphanCare as a valued partner who has come forward not just in contributing a percentage of their sales but also providing other qualitative support to help orphan children. This partnership will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to prevent a second abandonment when these children transition out of care homes upon reaching adulthood. We are pleased to work together to make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of these deserving young individuals.”

Emerald has a long-standing history of championing youth development. Previously, it served as the Youth Sports Development Partner for the inaugural Youth Sports Festival organized by the Youth Sports Club. The company also partnered with the Colombo District Women’s Cricket Association to sponsor the Runn T10 Women’s Cricket Championship, promoting women’s cricket in Sri Lanka & multiple community projects with AISEC in Sri Lanka supporting over 600 students at Mahagaswewa Maha Vidyalaya, Galenbindunuwewa. This project offered necessary school supplies and engaged parents in understanding their crucial role in their children’s education, empowering them to contribute to a brighter future. This project assisted the academic and personal growth of the students and had an enduring impact on the community.

In addition to its partnership with OrphanCare, Emerald has recently demonstrated its commitment to helping those in need. During the recent floods that affected the Gampaha District, Emerald donated over 2,500 shirts and 1,000 pieces of innerwear to the Gampaha Disaster Management Center for distribution to the affected communities and also contributed to national efforts by donating personal protective equipment (PPE) kits to frontline medical staff during the COVID-19 Pandemic demonstrating its commitment to community well-being during crisis.

This partnership with OrphanCare is a testament to Emerald International’s unwavering dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of orphaned children. By contributing a portion of its sales to this cause, Emerald supports OrphanCare’s mission and inspires others to join in building a brighter future for Sri Lanka’s youth.

Established with Amana Bank as the founding sponsor and administered by an independent group of trustees, OrphanCare aims to create a nurturing and enabling environment for orphaned children to thrive and avoid a second abandonment. A notable feature of this initiative is that every donated rupee directly reaches the intended beneficiaries since all administrative and operational costs are fully borne by the Bank. To date OrphanCare has enrolled over 3,000 orphans from 90+ childcare homes across the country, honoring Article 2 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, where all enrolments are done irrespective of race, color, religion, or ethnicity.
