As an apex body for driving innovation and collaboration, the TM Forum Catalyst Program serves as a testbed for groundbreaking ideas within the communications ecosystem, promoting a culture of co-creation and association. Communications Partners, Vertical Champions, and Solution Partners from around the globe come together to create groundbreaking ideas that can transform business models and elevate digital lifestyles while mitigating societal impacts. This year, over 50 Catalyst projects competed, showcasing groundbreaking innovations developed through the fusion of technology.

The Moonshot Catalyst project teams specifically collaborate globally across continents to create technically excellent solutions with game-changing business models and societal impact to win the Moonshot Catalyst team awards. 42 members from 9 global players (3 of which are Communications Service Providers) coming from 5 countries representing SLT-MOBITEL (Fixed and Mobile), Botswana Telecom (BTC), BrandMed, Enocta, Resolute Education, Covalencedigital, Etiya, and N-able collaborated as partners, engaging from Sri Lanka, India, Botswana, South Africa, and Turkiye. The winning project, ‘SmartHive xG,’ showcased an Open Digital Architecture (ODA) compliant, AI-native Smart City blueprint, specifically targeting the iconic Smart City development in Sri Lanka. The SmartHive xG project envisions utilizing SLT-MOBITEL’s future-ready 5G network infrastructure to build smarter, sustainable, and greener cities, thereby enabling Sri Lanka to progress towards digital advancements.

The award for ‘Open Innovation Outstanding Catalyst – Use of TMForum Assets’ for the project Gen AI Powered Toolkit for Network and Service Management was led by SLT-MOBITEL (Fixed & Mobile) and included 8 other champions and 6 participants with complementary backgrounds in Network, OSS/BSS, GenAI/ML, no code development, and service orchestration. The Catalyst projects provide a basis to undertake an operational transformation by a ‘Generative AI based Toolkit’ encompassing a Large Language Model and Knowledge graph. This helped simplify and assist in decision making across network operational domains, by rapid access to contextual information & insights, enabling communication service providers to further optimize operational process transformation, improve resolution times, and help reduce carbon footprint. Furthermore, the project demonstrated the capability of Closed Loop Intent Based Service Orchestration using TMForum Open API’s, with a direction to achieve AN (Autonomous Network) level 4.

This year, SLT-MOIBITEL championed four catalyst projects, of which two projects were recognized as winners. The project ‘GenAI Powered Toolkit for Network and Service Management’ was listed as a finalist under the category ‘Open Innovation Outstanding Catalyst- Application of AI and Automation’ while the project ‘Mighty Minions: Unleashing domain-specific GenAI via SLMs’ was a finalist for the ‘Best Moonshot Catalyst – Attendees’ Choice Award’.
