Anne Gunasekera, the founder of Boutique Fiori and Sansara Garments, received the Woman of Faith Award for her exceptional contributions to entrepreneurship and social development at the International Women’s Achievers Awards 2024. Organised by Business World International Organisation, the award ceremony was held at Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.
Gunasekera is the visionary founder of Boutique Fiori, a business renowned for its creative, sustainable, and eco-friendly handmade products. It offers a diverse range of items, including bed runners, table mats, cushion covers, kitchenware, craft items, and tablecloths. Each product is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring unique designs and high-quality materials. The company aims to enhance the ambiance of any space, catering to both local customers and global markets. Boutique Fiori is dedicated to empowering young talents from vulnerable communities in areas such as Kobeigana, Kurunegala, and Anuradhapura. Every purchase from Boutique Fiori supports these grassroots artisans, making a positive impact on their lives. Her entrepreneurial journey began in 1981 with a single sewing machine. Despite numerous challenges, her determination and resilience led her to international recognition. In 1982, she showcased her designs at the prestigious Milano International Fair, igniting her passion for global impact. Her participation in events like the Partners in Progress Berlin International Trade Fair and the Gothenburg Trade Fair in Sweden further expanded her business horizons. In 1984, she established Sansara Garments, a factory employing 65 individuals. Under her leadership, Sansara Garments became a well-established industry leader, known for its quality and craftsmanship. Beyond her entrepreneurial success, Anne is dedicated to philanthropic endeavors. Her initiatives in agriculture, microfinancing, and women empowerment have made a meaningful difference in the lives of many.
