P&S Launches 125kW Rooftop Solar PV System at Pasyala, Marking a Major Step Towards Sustainability

Perera & Sons Bakers Private Limited (P&S), Sri Lanka’s largest quick service restaurant chain, has taken a significant step towards clean energy with the launch of a 125kW rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at its Pasyala production unit. This project marks a major milestone in the company’s commitment to sustainable operations and environmental responsibility.

The 125kWp rooftop solar PV system, which was commissioned in May, in collaboration with Vislam Energy Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), is poised to generate 181,500kWh of clean energy annually. This translates to a substantial reduction of 127,050kg of CO2 emissions each year.

Established in 1902, P&S has grown to reach 210 outlets across Sri Lanka, delivering affordable, delicious and exciting meals, treats, and delights to customers. The company’s dedication to sustainability is well known, with P&S having conducted many initiatives addressing various social and environmental needs.

Gihan Perera – Managing Director of P&S explained the ethos behind the project, “We are thrilled to take this significant step towards sustainability through renewable energy with our new rooftop solar PV system at our Pasyala Kitchen. This project not only helps to reduce our carbon footprint but also sets an example for other facilities in the region. Our commitment to clean energy and environmental responsibility remains stronger than ever, and we intend to pursue other such initiatives in the future.”

This initiative by P&S stands out as one of the largest rooftop solar installations in the local area. The clean energy generated will be fed into the national grid, contributing significantly to Sri Lanka’s renewable energy goals. P&S Pasyala’s initiative thus paves the way for other businesses to embrace sustainable practices and contribute to a greener future.

P&S’s wider social and environmental initiatives further align with the UN SDGs, particularly SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). By embracing these goals, P&S demonstrates a comprehensive approach to sustainability, incorporating innovative strategies and strategic collaborations to create a more equitable and environmentally conscious future for all.
