The 11th annual CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 18 June 2024, at the Oak Room, Cinnamon Grand, Colombo. A signature event in the CFA Society Sri Lanka calendar since its inception in 2012, the CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards looks to provide insights from stakeholders including the industry and capital market regulators – key proponents of the awards, which recognize and reward professionals who have established benchmarks for the advancement of domestic capital market participants.

CFA Society Sri Lanka works with the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) towards the common goal of uplifting the local capital markets and bringing them on a par with international standards. Furthermore, the CSE is the Annual Platinum Partner in support of CFA Society Sri Lanka initiatives including the CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards, the CFA Research Challenge and many other initiatives that help in improving capital market standards.

Commenting on the CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards, Chairman of the CSE Dilshan Wirasekara notes: “The standards set by the CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards for investment research continue to be a guiding post for the investment research industry in Sri Lanka. Not only does it recognize and reward the analysts contributing to the industry, but also encourages all other capital market participants to strive for higher standards of excellence.”

He further notes: “Despite the volatile market and economic conditions experienced by the country in the past few years, we are glad to see the continuation of the awards. It is an encouragement and a signal to market participants that investment industry research standards should be sustained irrespective of market conditions.”

Similar to its collaborative efforts with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), in the past, the CSE and CFA Society Sri Lanka have also collaborated on numerous projects, with a particular focus on improving financial literacy levels in the country.

“The CSE as an exchange is very passionate about increasing the financial literacy levels of Sri Lanka on a national level. Together with CFA Society Sri Lanka, we have conducted various educational programs to ensure that not just investors, but the general public is also financially literate from a very grassroots level,” Wirasekara notes.

He also affirms that “the CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards is a key part of these endeavors and I am pleased to see the event taking place for an 11th year. With the research industry having undergone many changes, it is important to recognize and provide support to the talent in the industry.”
