Sri Lanka gears up for the most awaited e-bicycle event Eco Ride 2024

1- Lumala Eco Ride (LBN)

Sri Lanka’s most awaited and anticipated electric bicycle event, Eco Ride is just around the corner. And this time, it’s back and forth to the central misty hills. Lumala Eco Ride 2.0 will kickstart on the 21st of May and end on the 27th of May, under the theme ‘Managing Plastics, Protecting Nature.’

The Eco Ride will see participants from across the country coming together to raise awareness and advocate on sustainability and e-mobility, from grassroot environmental organizations, university students, members of clubs, associations, municipal councils, ministries, and diverse riding teams, through to tourists, cycling enthusiasts and social media influencers.

Riders will cover over 500kms in the upcountry by the various locally made, diverse range of e-bikes from Lumala. The journey will begin from Panadura to Haputhale via Pelmadulla, and off to Nuwara Eliya via the scenic Horton Plains, and then from Nuwara Eliya to Kandy, Kegalle and back to Colombo.

Some of the key highlights will include collecting plastics at various locations and town storming sessions.

The week-long ride will go onto create awareness on sustainable waste management practices, particularly on single-use polythene and plastics including eco-protection programs in areas such as Horton Plains for instance. In addition, it will stress upon the need for sustainable mobility, and also promote eco-tourism.

Last year’s Eco Ride was a huge success. Held on March, the event covered a massive distance of over 800kms from Point Pedro to Point Dondra.

The Eco Ride is an initiative by City Cycle Industries Manufacturing (Pvt.) Ltd., better known as Lumala, a leader at the forefront of smart mobility and environmental stewardship, in collaboration with various other organizations, including the Ministry of Tourism.
