11-Year-Old Prodigy Rakhitha Widyapathige Shines Bright at All-Island Best Speaker Contest on International Children’s Day 2023

Colombo, Sri Lanka – Rakhitha Widyapathige, an 11-year-old student from Colombo International School, has emerged as the victor at the prestigious All-Island Best Speaker Contest, organized by the YLT Gavel Toastmasters Club to celebrate International Children’s Day 2023. In a remarkable feat for such a young talent, Rakhitha triumphed over 150 exceptionally gifted speakers from across the nation, including participants from renowned institutions such as Royal College, Trinity College, Musaeus College, Ananda College, Sirimavo, Lyceum & Stafford International among others.

This awe-inspiring competition, which was open to school children aged 9 to 16 from all corners of the island, featured three challenging rounds – preliminary, semi-final, and the grand finale. Rakhitha, a straight A student, showcased his impressive public speaking skills throughout the competition while successfully balancing his academic studies with other activities.

In addition to his public speaking prowess, Rakhitha also boasts a noteworthy musical talent that has gained international recognition. He recently clinched a gold medal in the Children’s Solo category at the prestigious Bali International Choir Festival, representing Sri Lanka. This achievement marked his second international gold medal, following his earlier victory at the World Virtual Choir Festival organized by the Bungdung Choral Society, where he also received a special jury award for his exceptional contributions to promoting culture and dance through music.

Rakhitha’s musical journey has been nurtured by renowned musician Soundarie David Rodrigo at Soul Sounds Academy, one of Sri Lanka’s premier music academies. His dedication and passion for both public speaking and music are truly inspiring, and his accomplishments at such a young age promise a bright future ahead.
